Abdominal surgery
Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is one of the most common procedures in plastic surgery. Factors such as multiple pregnancies, genetics, hormonal changes, sun exposure and weight loss, can produce a globose abdomen, loose skin and unwanted areas of fat deposits. |
Most women have changes in the shape of their body as they age or especially after a pregnancy. As the pregnancy takes place, the skin around the abdomen is overstretched, damaging collagen and elastin fibers. In most of the pregnancies and despite all the cautions and care taken, stretch marks (striae) will appear especially below the navel height. With pregnancy the abdominal muscles stretch constantly, losing its muscle tone and strength; areas of fat deposits will form too, these areas do not improve and persist despite rigorous exercise, diet and fasting. All these together can cause the appearance of an abdomen that is disproportionate to the body thus seeking this surgical procedure.
Noteworthy to mention that people who is planning on losing weight dramatically in the coming months or people who are not done having babies they must wait until doing so.
Also for moms who recently had their last baby, they must wait at least a 6 months period of time in order to give time to the body to return to its most natural shape, giving opportunity to the skin to contract as much as possible thus decreasing the length of the scar.
Abdominoplasty can be done simultaneously with other aestethic procedures such as breast augmentation, liposuction, etc.
